Grow it yourself challenge
16 Dec 2021Gediflora’s mission, which is fully underpinned by its R&D department, is to provide growers with an extremely consistent, high quality, innovative, 100% ‘easy to grow’ plant assortment. As a trusted business partner in the market place, we (and the entire Gediflora team) decided to put this to the test by organizing a “Grow It Yourself” challenge.
In May, cuttings from three varieties were distributed to our entire team. Office staff, together with staff involved in growing and breeding as well as greenhouse staff were all asked to grow the cuttings into high value colourful Mum Flower plants. Naturally, our team members, all of whom who have green fingers, set to work with great enthusiasm.
Four months later, the time had come to judge the fully-grown plants. The judging of the plants was based on three criteria: size, shape and sturdiness and, was carried out by no one less than Christine Devolder, mother of the current Managing Director Elien Pieters. Christine had also been at the helm of the thriving Gediflora company for 30 years together with her husband Dirk.
In the first round, the Possidi White was judged. Christine carried out a thorough inspection of the self-grown plants, awarding each one points and then announced the three winners of this round. First place was awarded to our lorry driver Geert. Second place went to Vincent, our sales manager and third place went to Ward, our cultivation manager.
A few weeks later, it was time to judge the Senga Mauve. Again, our lorry driver Geert presented the best specimen; followed by Davy, our operations manager, and Emma, our newly appointed financial assistant.
After the third round, it was quite clear that our lorry driver Geert was the worthy winner of this first edition of the “Grow It Yourself” challenge. His efforts were rewarded with a trip in our colourful Mum-Flowers hot air balloon.
